General

Unidentified fossils are obtained when performing specific activities on Fossil Island.

A player can receive fossils as a drop from monsters, chopping Sulliuscep mushrooms in the Tar Swamp, tracking a herbiboar’s tracks in the Mushroom Forest, looting giant clam shells and treasure chests underwater. You can also purchase one from Mairin in her shop for 100 mermaid’s tears, by mining the boulder while in the Volcanic Mine, looting drift nets, digging in the soil found at the Museum Camp, or by opening a Bowl of Fish

Peter will also grant 5 unidentified fossils for helping reconstruct the Museum Camp.

You can trade these fossils to the Fossil Collector who will pay 100 numulites.

Unidentified small fossils will give the player a small fossilized limb, spine, ribs, pelvis, or skull.

Unidentified large fossils will grant a player either an identified large fossil or a plant fossil. A plant fossil might be a fossilized root, stump, branch, leaf, or mushroom.

Unidentified rare fossils will give the player a rare fossilized limb, spine, rib, pelvis, skull, or tusk.

When a player has received a full set of fossils, they can be brought to the Varrock Museum and displayed in exchange for an antique lamp which will grant experience in any skill desired.

Cleaning Guide

Players must first build the cleaning bench found east of the Museum Camp by using five planks and five nails while having both a hammer and saw in their inventory. This will grant 100 construction experience.

To clean fossils, players must use the unidentified fossil on the bench while wearing leather boots, leather gloves, a trowel, rock pick, and a specimen brush.

Players can also perform this action at the Varrock Musseum.

Zygomite

Zygomites, referred to as Mutated Zygomites by the Slayer masters, are monsters that appear as Fungi until provoked (Pick Fungi) that require level 57 Slayer to damage. They resemble giant mushrooms, and are only found in Zanaris, near the Cosmic altar (level 86), or near the furnace (level 74). Players must use fungicide spray on Zygomites to kill them.

The Fungicide spray must be reloaded every ten kills. The reloads, Fungicide, can be bought from the slayer master or obtained as a drop from Zygomites. Players cannot sell the spray or reloads back to the slayer master afterwards, so only buy what is needed.

Players who have been given a Mutated Zygomite Slayer assignment can choose to kill Ancient Zygomites as an alternative for the task.

Zygomites mostly use magic-based melee headbutt which can hit substantial amounts, but they occasionally use more powerful magic-based ranged attacks by shooting spores. Dragonhide armour is strongly recommended while fighting them, as the high Magic defence will reduce the chance of them hitting you. If praying against their attacks, Protect from Missiles is recommended, as their ranged attacks are stronger and more accurate than their melee attacks.
